hmm...
"If you really wanted to piss someone off, all you'd need to do is sign-up a free gmail.com account, register yourself to as many high-volume mailing lists as you feel like, and then forward the whole lot to some poor sod" I apologise for my seemingly dumb question but can't someone just take your email address and submit to a few newsgroups (and illegitimate mailing lists) without going to the trouble of subscribing youre email under a bogus gmail account? This would have virtually the same effect without the hassle of the entire signup process. There are more than a dozen mailing lists out there also that allow you to subscribe and *then* change your emal - without confirmation much like gmail.

Most decent (especially high volume) mailing lists will require confirmation. Even if they didn't, they virtually all include an unsubscribe option don't they? so you could unsub your own address. Now, try doing this if it's not actually your address that is on the list, but a filtered forwarding gmail one.
Boy that stinks!!!

I'm going to get back at my friend this way, although you should just forward everything back to him.

I know it sucks, but why did you take the time to write this page, and contact gmail when it would have taken only a few clicks to block his email address?
What would have taken 5 minutes at most is now a big gmail fiasco? I'm sorry bout your luck but its an easy fix so stop crying.

It's worth writing about because it's a FLAW in their system, that they don't acknowledge exists.
